Raleigh LaxFest is a youth and high school lacrosse tournament organized by South Wake Sports, held yearly in Raleigh, North Carolina. I’ve been making shafts for them for the past 5 years. Every time, I do something a little different. Let me show you what I’m doing this year.
This year, I went for a tie-die-inspired design with bright, vibrant colors. One type has a regular wood design, and the other has a pinkish-orange tint, but both are sprinkled with blue paint to create a very cool splatter effect along the shafts. They go through a few coats of a hand-mixed wood stain/paint pigment powder mixture before I add the blue paint that creates the messy, bright blue blood splatter. One that’s done, they get 3 or 4 coats of Minwax Clear over them, and then, hung up to dry.
Doing something exclusive is unique in the fact that what I create is consumed in a particular moment, and it’s challenging to create something that we’ll never replicate again, so unfortunately, these shafts are not for sale through Ripwood. You’ll only be able to get these at the festival. So, if you’re interested in the Raleigh LAX Fest and these new shafts, the info is below. I’m Andy with Ripwood Lacrosse, and I’ll see you next time.
